How air conditioning actually works
All air conditioning systems — regardless of type — operate on the same fundamental principle: refrigerant absorbs heat from the air inside your property and releases it outside, leaving the indoor air cooler. In heating mode, this process reverses. Modern heat pump systems are remarkably efficient, delivering up to four units of heating energy for every one unit of electricity consumed.
Warm air is drawn in
The indoor unit draws warm air from the room across a cold evaporator coil containing refrigerant.
Heat is absorbed
The refrigerant absorbs the heat from the air, cooling it before it's returned to the room.
Heat is expelled outside
The now-warm refrigerant travels to the outdoor unit, where the heat is released into the outside air.
The cycle repeats
The cooled refrigerant returns indoors and the cycle continues, maintaining your chosen temperature.
